Anniversary Getaway…

Last weekend, I managed to reap the harvest of a couple of months of super secret planning to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary.

Kirstie mentioned once in passing that she wanted to visit the Headwaters of the Mississippi.  I had been planning on getting up there with the kids sometime, but with the 3.5 hour drive, and limited time off work for the both of us, it kinds slipped away.

For this trip, I wanted to surprise Kirstie.  I secretly spoke to Kirstie’s boss, and made sure she had the weekend off.

Now Kirstie and I love to camp.  We usually do rustic spots, away from organized campgrounds… backpack in, set up tent, filter our own water, etc.  This time, I wanted to pamper her a bit, and make it a simple, relaxing vacation, so I sprung for a fireplace cabin near the Douglass Lodge.
Great Choice:

We did a few miles of hiking, and learned a lot about the early settlers to Itasca.  We also spent some time out on the canoe:

I could not have imagined a better way to celebrate my anniversary with my best friend, and love of my life.
