Franken vs. Coleman Will it ever end?

In an epic conundrum that puts hanging chads to shame, Minnesota is still one senator short in the 111th congress.

capitolI for one am so sick of both of these guys… After months of the worst campaign ads I’ve ever seen, and 2 months of recounting, we are no closer to seating our new senator. I have a strong disdain for both candidates, but Minnesota needs their senate seats filled.

While it will be of no use in our current situation, there is a ray of hope for future too-close-to-call elections… A “run-off” election.

Democratic Sen. Ann Rest and Republican Rep. Laura Brod say a runoff would replace the recount process, where if the top votegetters are separated by a half-percentage point or less, the top two candidates would advance to another election within a couple of weeks.

In other states runoffs are held (Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas) if the leading candidate fails to get more than 50 percent of votes cast.

sosThe Minnesota lawmakers said they would limit the concept here to extremely close races and apply it only in elections for statewide office, such as governor and Senate.

The down side…. Extra weeks of campaign commercials.
